Recommendations on PSU

Post by dward » Sun Jun 01, 2003 11:18 am

I've ran into the problem where it looks like my PSU is not adequate in powering my system. USB devices have problems powering up, and programs seem to crash on a regular basis since I have added two more hard drives.

Current I have a no-name brand 400watt power supply.

I just need a recommendation on the size of PSU and which PSU i should get.
Currently I am looking at getting the Antec True Power 550W.

Here's my current configuration:

Antec Performance View 1000AMG
5 Antec Case Fans
Athlon XP 2600
ASUS A7N8X Deluxee
2x256 DDR2700 RAM
2xIBM DX120 40GB (RAID 1 configuration)
2xMAXTOR 40GB (RAID 0 configuration)
3Ware Escalade 7000-2 ATA-Raid controller (RAID 0)
Promise FastTrak 100TX2 (RAID 1)
Geforce 3 ti500
LiteOn 48X CDRW
Promise 16X DVD-ROM

Your "400w noname" may not even be capable of a real 200w output. Dealers can buy some PSUs with different labels (300W, 400W whatever) -- same price. 400W from any brand on the SPCR Recommended PSUs list would be perfectly up to the task. Probably even 300W models but the extra headroom probably won't hurt. 550W is overkill, imo.
