Quietest 500-600 watt PSU

Post by mark88 » Wed Mar 18, 2009 4:05 pm

Was thinking about the HX520w but is there an option that is quieter around the same wattage??

noise being the number 1 priority in a PSU for me

I'm not sure.

E8400, 4gb 1066mhz ramm, Radeon 2600XT(Im not a gamer), 6 x s-ata hard drives, Network card...

if the nexus value 430 will suffice then great!

Hello Mark,

Your system will probably not peak over 200watts -- so the Nexus 430 will be plenty! And since it is the quietest fanned PSU...

so....

ive decided the Nexus 430 should be ok for me...

ive got a q6600, 8gb ddr2 sdram, two hd's (80gb & 400gb), 111d dvdr drive and will be upgrading the graphics card soon (probs to a 512mb ddr 3) but not sure what model yet (ill be looking in the forums for that in a sec)

im guessing i wont have a problem with this supply??
only really use the pc for streaming video, music, the interweb, however i might use it for some gaming (but not a lot)

only problem is i can't find anywhere that sells it in the uk!!!! the nexus website says it has 4 uk distributors but only one of them has it and its notin stock!
my pc sounds like a hovercraft!!
i really want a nice silent supply for an ok price

if anyone can reccomend any other supplys though it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

p.s - anyone used any of the other nexus psu's?? any good??

the Seasonic 380W would be fine too, and you could get the Corsair HX520, or the Corsair VX450.

I can vouch for the last one, a very nice unit. My seasonic 430 is quiet as well.

Will the Nexus 430 be ok for me too? If not I was going to go for the Enermax Modu82+ 625W.

My rig will be either of the following Intel CPU's Q6700 or 6600 or Q8200

fairly standard dvd rw
2x sata hdds
1x external hdd
4gb ddr2 800mhz mem
and I think ASUS P5N7A-VM motherboard (built in graphs and sound)

For general use mostly with a bit of media (hd/blu ray) and maybe a game every now and then (not all the time).

I think your system at most may draw 150W from the wall socket if you don't plan on overclocking or overvolting CPU. 625W is too much for such a low-end system in terms of 3D performance.
