My 525W Modu82 is ruining the system with it's high pitched whine. What would you guys recommend to replace it with? Corsair HX650, Seasonic X-650?

If you don't mind the price I can heartily recommend the X-650 which I'm overjoyed with having. There are new versions of the same design coming out in lower capacities if you don't need that much, but I don't know when they'll become available. I don't suppose that they will have that much of a lower price in the end either, but you never know.

That's pretty high price nearly 200€... Do I have to worry about the jump to 30db? I'm running an overclocked Phenom II X6 1090T, HD 5850 1GB, 4GB 1333MHz, Samsung F3 1TB system.

Theoretically yes, as your HD5850 sucks up to 150W DC from the PSU: but pratically when it pulls those 150W, I mean its fan should be much louder than the 30dB of the PSU.

Maybe a better bet (for that sum) it could be a fanless PSU, like the Silverstone Nightjar or the Seasonic X-460.

Luca

Hi, I have an Antec Signature 650w PSU and it doesn't whine even in my system with a GTX260. The GTX260 itself whines (or rather it did till I got at it!) and made my previous NeoHE whine horribly.

Not sure I can comment on the noise level of my Signature as it's had it's fan swapped! For reference the swapped fan gets up to 800~1000rpm (80mm fan remember) when under sustained Folding@home load on the CPU and GPU and the room temp is high. On hot days (for England) it probably reaches 25°C+ in my room.
I would guess the original fan would be similar in speed but couldn't spin down as low as the swapped one. (<600rpm vs 750rpm, not that the stock fan was noisy at all really!)

Regards, Seb

Which is the new fan?

New fan is Arctic Cooling F8 PWM.
My build thread with several pics etc of PSU fan swap.
