hunt for an ultra quiet PSU

Post by phil0079 » Wed Dec 02, 2009 12:39 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my PSU with something ultra quiet... so im going passive?

currently i have a Corsair VX450W PSU. its quiet but could be better.

Is there anything else recommended besides the Seasonic_X650

as always, thanks for any input.

cheers

Hello Phil,

Yes, have you checked the recommended power supply list lately?

A power supply that isn't on the list is Fortron's Sparkle Power 400W http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku= ... wer%20Intl. Great PSU for the price and uses an ADDA fan like the Seasonics.

You could also try swapping the fan in your vx450, s-flex 1600rpm is a common choice for swapping

+1 for this first, if you feel up to it. I did this with a somewhat noisy Zalman PSU and now I can no longer hear it over the rest of my reasonably quiet gaming system, even when I turn all the fans down to 5V.

1600rpm is the best way to go with the S-Flex, the 1200rpm one in my psu is quiet but theres barely any airflow

May I recommend the Arctic F12 fan for great savings: quiet up to 8-9v, excellent bearing, reliable low voltage start, and costs a third as much as an S-Flex. :D

I bought the Nexus Value 430 after it being adviced by SPCR and I can honestly say it is everything said. Of course, that paved the way for my stock CPU cooler to annoy the hell out of me, but that's the life of silent pc lovers :)
