Corsair VX 450W - Is this noise normal?

Post by FlexiPack » Mon Oct 17, 2011 2:53 pm

Hi all,

I've had the Corsair VX 450W for about a year now, it's always made this electrical noise from new. I thought originally it was the fan but it appears to be the electrical components. It's only becoming an issue now that I am making efforts to get my PC as quiet as possible. Is this noise normal for the VX 450?

I was plagued by the same chirpy cricketey noise. I had to play with C1E, Speedstep and Thermal Monitor settings in BIOS to get rid of it on my VX450. Yours seems awful loud though but maybe the microphone is more sensitive to high frequencies. If the BIOS settings doesnt help consider an RMA, Corsiar customer service is excellent.

Turns out only C1E and higher C states caused the chirping noises. SpeedStep/EIST can still be active for an excellent power consumption reduction at light loads. I achieved this by disbling C-states in BIOS and running ThrottleStop with the following options:
