24-pin cable to 20-pin motherboard

Post by Luke M » Tue Dec 20, 2011 10:05 am

What's the easiest way to connect a 24-pin power supply (not 20/24-pin detachable) to a 20-pin motherboard?

Plug it in, leaving the appropriate 4 pins just dangling off the end:

There are also 24->20pin adaptor cables for non-divideable 24pin supplies, to make the connecting simpler.

Ah! It doesn't fit, though. So I guess I will just saw off the extra 4 pins. It ruins the power supply for modern motherboards, but it's a crappy 300W Bestec (from an HP) anyway.
