If that would be the case, I could live with it. It's only a month extra.

According to users, the regular version is far from quiet, I wouldn't expect this one to be different just because it's 80Plus Gold instead of Bronze.

Me neither, but it's a good start. I'm prepared to change the fan, and it doesn't make any difference to me if PSU gets thicker.

If only the title said "Seasonic" instead of "Silverstone", now that would have been awesome!

Indeed! Given that Seasonic have updated their TFX models, I thought we would have seen a newer SFX coming as well.
I'm pretty sure it will come, the question is when.

At the CES 2012 Silverstone presented a 650W Gold certified ATX PSU that's modular and still only 140mm deep. I asked them about it and they replied "Still in development".

I think you can find that length elsewhere as well with that power output.
140 mm is the original length, although todays PSUs are often 160 mm or longer. Nexus has a 125 mm Bronze certified ATX PSUs.

Where/how did you ask them?

On that note, the “Gold Evolution” PSUs use a different, fluid-bearing fan from the rest of their lineup, and so should be (and are rated officially as) noticeably quieter than the example SPCR reviewed some time ago.

I’m hoping that the 650W Gold Evo gets released sometime before I start my build this August as I don’t like paying for an extra 100W of power I’m never going to need. Psychologically it just feels imbalanced.

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but since I had the tidbit on the Gold Evo noise level, I figured it was worth updating... specifically, SilverStone rates it’s 750W Gold PSU as 19–36 dBA, but its 750W Gold Evo PSU at 17-28. Much better on paper!

EDIT: Reply from SS states that lower-wattage Gold Evo PSUs are supposed to arrive in late August if everything goes as planned.

UL number for the SFX is 313296, which means it's made by Impervio, according to this site.

140mm deep, fully modular, single rail design prabably Enhance. The fan speed curve suggests the 120mm fan speeds up from 800RPM only when the PSU is loaded more than 60%.
550w has one 6/8pin PCIe and one 6pin PCIEe, 650 has two of each. 8 sata connectors on both models.
There's a short cable kit available.

Those are not SFX power supplies.

My local hardware dealer in the UK is stocking this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/450w-sil ... -plus-gold. The UK price from this source is £80.

AU$115 in Australia. Compared to AU$89 for the older 450W 80PLUS Bronze unit.

Has any of you by any chance tried this PSU? I'd love to find out if it's noisy or not... I'm going to build a silent PC and it'd be quite annoying if the PSU (which will be at the top and closest to me) turns out to be the thing making all the noise

Folks from ocn.net that use this PSU found it quite noisy under load, so I assume it should be fine if your setup draws close to 225-250 W maximum, but would lok into something different if not.
