Occaisional Noise in Seasonic S12-430

Post by jorwex » Sat Apr 28, 2012 11:02 am

All,

I have had a Model SS-430HB since early 2006 -- I bought it after careful reading, esp. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article226-page1.html. It's lasted me through a few computer iterations since then, running in an Antec P180.

Anyway, I've noticed an occasional "scraping" sort of noise emanating from the case. It will come on for a few minutes-hours at a time and then go away. Today I opened the case and found that it was coming from my otherwise-trusty PSU. It does not seem to be dependent on what I'm using the computer for.

I know very little about fans -- will this maybe just require some grease? Or should I anticipate replacing the 12-cm Yate Loon D12SM-12 fan inside, or *gasp* the PSU itself?

Thanks for reading

I don't think you can use grease, and will probably have to replace the internal fan.
