low cost quiet PSU

Post by trxman » Thu Apr 26, 2012 2:18 pm

hello.

I'm planning to make a low-budget HTPC.
as I already sad in other topic, it should be quiet, but it doesn't have to be completely silent.
so, I guess any PSU with 300W or more would be enough.

culrently, options are something like:

Antec EarthWatts EA-380D Green 380W ~42euro

PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III 400W ~45euro

be quiet! Pure Power 430W ~47euro

be quiet! SFX Power 350W SFX12V 3.2 ~48euro

be quiet! Pure Power CM 430W ~58euro

Sea Sonic S12II-380 380W ~58euro

Enermax ErPro80+ 350W ~55euro

Enermax PRO82+ II 385W ~66euro

will choosing some of them make any differency sound / quality / longevity wise or all of them are up to their job?

I love my BQT E7-400W, it does its job, it's inaudible, and I guess nowadays it's priced under 50eur.

Saesonic SS-350ET-F3 40€ similar to SII series, but no manufacturer warranty and no black paintjob.
I've used the Enermax PRO82+ II 385W in a build and it's very quiet. From the revies I read the ErPro isn't far behind.

Is the Superflower Golden Green priced too high in your locale?

be quiet! System Power 80Plus 300W ATX 2.2

Should get the job done and isn't to pricy. If it really has to be this low cost, be quiet! is at least a known brand.

well, I said low-cost in a way that I don't need top-performance top-quality PSU that cost more then 100 euro, but price range of 40 to 60 euro is OK for me.

current locale is Vienna, so SS-350ET-F3 could be found:

BQT E7-400W is not so widely available, and a little bit more pricy:

here's the breakdown of some known brands:

The BQT Straight Power E9 range is the latest, and in particular features a 135mm fan so can be very quiet indeed. The E9 400w costs around 60 euros, see http://geizhals.at/677342. Review here http://www.pc-experience.de/wbb2/thread ... adid=32537.

Seeing you're coming from Östereich, i'd point you to a Lepa device, which is an Enermax-OEM brand.

LEPA N 400W ATX 2.3 ranging around 30€ + p&p

Imho this is the best bang for your bucks.

Lepa at least involves 2 OEM sources -- Enermax, CWT. CWT is not famous for quiet PSU .....
I won't purchase LEPA PSU unless I'm sure it's Enermax inside.
