Edit: According to some old Computex news there will eventually be a full range of these up to 650W. One might want to pick up the 450W model for the simple reason of it sporting two PCIe power lines straight from the supply, although a set of adapter cabling with the 360W part will do just fine in most situations. Might take a while until any other model materialises since the Seasonic website only mention the 360W for now.

Edit 2: Holy clap, the higher models will be partially modular as well. That might make for a bit of a price gap to the 360 though.

Yeah, I just noticed this on Newegg over the weekend plus a couple of TFX and 1U models. Again, all 80plus gold. Definitely nice to have some relatively cheap, reasonably powered, gold rated PSUs. No reason to hack up any proprietary Dell PSUs anymore.

I got a 400W Silencer Mk III (a re-branded S12II by PC Power and Cooling) for my NAS a couple of months back for $30. Researching that PSU made me lust after a new Gold PSU by Seasonic or Superflower for my desktop, but the ~$120 price tag was tough to swallow. The upcoming 550W version may be a dream come true.

PSU price war anyone?

Does anyone know whether the fan will only turn on when a certain power consumptions is reached, like some of the Seasonic X PSU's?

There should be some confirmation soon but I don't think it's likely simply because the Seasonic website does not put that "Hybrid Silent Fan Control" up as a feature for this model. We could still hope for the higher partially modular models, as they aren't listed at all on the website yet. Such a feature would likely add a little to their price though and Seasonic should want to keep their main X line around as well.

Some additional info via HT4U. 450W is $90. 5 year warranty and bumping all the X series to 7yr.

Some more info on the G-Series. I await the SPCR verdict. I'm torn between an Earthwatts Platinium and of these.

Earthwatts Platinum has mediocre voltage regulation...

I'm trying a 360 G on a new build right now. The only use it's had is running 12+ hours of Memtest 86+ so far, so it's been under no particularly hard load. It's really quiet, but the fan does run all the time.

I'd also appreciate a review of the 450 W version since it's modular. I'd be happy to pay the premium of 20-30 USD for a modular PSU.

I've just had a 360W sample on my test bench for prelim examination: It's extremely quiet, hard to tell when it's on at a meter, the fan seems to run ~700rpm. From very close up, there's the usual mix of a tiny bit of buzzing and fan noise, but in normal use, I'd expect the thing to be silent. That plus 80+ Gold efficiency: This series will be a winner.

Thanks for the quick review of the noise! I have also noticed the sale this morning, and my hands were itching to order, but I have to know how quiet it will be.

Only a PSU w/o fan or one that does not spin at low load would be quieter, assuming the PSU is not subject to the system heat (and absence of electronic whine). The old Nexus might be quieter because its fan ran so slow, but it's way outclassed in every other way.

My G-series 360W sample is just as quiet as the one Mike is testing. If I couldn't use a Pico-PSU, the G360 would be my choice for a quiet PC build.

Excellent - thank you! I gather that it's very quiet at low-power-draw performance, and would like to ask how it fares at moderate loads - say around 200 Watts. Is it still reasonably quiet or does the fan ramp up to become very noticeable?

Just finished testing yesterday. ~13 dBA @ 1m is the default SPL. Not subject to internal case/system heat, the fan starts speeding up around 250W, where it reached maybe 16 dBA or a bit higher. By 300W, it's up to 30+ dBA... but you're past the sweet spot in both noise & efficiency anyway. In the hot box, fan ramp up begins ~50W lower, maybe 180W. This is at 24C ambient. Peak efficiency around there is superb (at least my sample, on my test rig): 94%. Ripple & noise? minuscule.

$60? Worth every penny, imo.

Thank you so much once again! Yeah, 300 Watts load is not something most of us would be using this PSU for, except maybe to do some benches. I don't anticipate my system to draw more than 200 Watts in games, so this is perfect! Going to get a SATA 15pin -> PCI-e 6pin adapter from Monoprice and order this little guy!

Not sure how this corresponds to the 94% efficiency result above (was that at 220V by some chance? Canada should be 120V, but the difference is significant, so just wondering. 94% efficiency would be so good!)

Newegg has the 550W and 650W in stock now, too. Pricing looks high compared to the 360W @ $106 and $125. $25 difference between the 550W G series and the 560W X.

just got a g360, and i have to agree 100%. what a great psu! seems stable even when overclocking.....so far. (4182 MHz on a 3.4 i5 3570)

Alright, just placed my order on the last day of NewEgg's sale. Was holding off in case there were going to be news about the new Platinum 520 Watt Seasonic release date, but at $51, it's difficult not to rationalize this purchase. In a year or two there will be even better PSUs to upgrade to if needed. Hope my unit will be a good one! Thanks to all the reviewers here.
