Hi,

I am considering a Enermax Modu82+ 625, such PSU like most high-end Enermax PSU features HeatGuard that keep PSU fan running for 30-60 seconds after shut
down to dissipate the remaining system heat and prolonging system lifetime.

SPCR did not mentitioned it in their review, anyone has experience with it, is it bothering? Any idea of rpm, can you hear the fan when your pc is turned off?

You should be aware that the fans in the original Enermax 82+ lineup are producing ticking sounds for a lot of users here. Have a look at the thread associated with the review.

I have the Enermax 385W Pro 82+ and I don't notice the fan running for an extra 30 seconds, but the feature is possibly restricted to the Modu version.

No, this feature was not in the Modu82+. It's in the more modern Modu87+ IIRC.

It perhaps seems like a bit of a gimmick. The heat will dissipate from the PSU quite naturally once the power goes off and the natural spin down time of a few seconds for the fan will help to clear the air in the PSU in the first few seconds.

I really wouldn't bother with a Modu82+. If you want an Enermax, buy a more modern Enermax. My Modu82+ blew up. A more modern PSU will be more efficient and could therefore be quieter.

What sort of system are you powering if you are considering a 625W PSU?

I was looking for a PSU 500-600w for my ITX Lian-Li PC-Q11.

I had a Corsair HX520w on my previous pc and I was looking for something even more silent, from this article seems like the modu82+ a bit more silent. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article806-page5.html

Most important looking at specs of the Enermax it is long only 140mm instead of standard 150/160mm PSU and still modular, the short size gives more air in the case, the 150mm HW520w is already very long for the case leaving a short gap between the case fan and psu.

The modu82+ on specs was great but your comments are a bit worrying. Any other suggestion for a modular, compact (better less then 150mm) more silent then a HX520w PSU?

You're going to waste your money on a PSU that big. This system will use 200-250W max so a 400W PSU would be sufficient.

The Modu82+ wasn't bad 5 years ago but has been replaced many times over so I really can't recommend it on those grounds, plus the ticking noises and unreliability too. The Modu87+ is better according to the SPCR review.

The Bit Tech review of this case uses a Seasonic X-series which is 160mm deep and if anything this would be better than an Enermax as it is fully modular rather than having the ATX connector hardwaired. I would go for one of these instead. The X-400 (or better still Platinum 400) fanless could be run passive with the vented side facing outward. This is how I have one in my SG03 which has a simialr PSU arrangement.

I avoided the old Enermax modu 82 and went for the Enermax Thriathlor 550W FC. It is new, still very compact (only 14cm) and with modular cables.
It's pretty much silent both on idle and under load (even quieter then my old HX520W).

I may be out of topic but I noticed a problem with my new PSU: the pc works ok, it can turned on and off from the case button but the pc turn on even if the PSU switch is off. The switch on the back of th PSU seems not to affect the pc. Maybe some bad connection with the motherboard or the PSU may be defective?
Any idea is welcome. Thanks
