PSU help

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking here for around a year or so, while building up parts for my new PC.

These are the parts I have now:

CPU: 4770k
Motherboard: Asus Gryphon
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vegenance
Video: Asus GTX 670 (from the recommendation on this site)

Now, the PSU I want to keep with seasonic as I've been happy with them in the past.
I was going to get a Seasonic Platinum 660W (It's only a few pounds more than the X-series) but I saw the Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W on special so I grabbed one.

What made me go for it was the fact the low load efficency was much better and the fact it was on offer. I'm now debating whether I should return it and go for the 660W one with the fan.

Noise wise I'm not too bothered if the fan on the 660W comes on as it would only happen when gaming (if it even does)

What worries me about the fanless one is that in a micro atx case the video card will sit directly above it and block all the rising heat.
Also, realistically the efficency difference between the two would probably equate to about £3 a year so hardly worth worrying about.

What do you think I should do? :?

What's the case? What other air flow is in the case?

Recognize that you use maybe 250W while gaming, so the PSU generates less than 25W of heat....as opposed to the 250W of heat from the other components.

I haven't bought the case yet, but was thinking of the FD Define mini.

Personally i prefer fanned PSU for a gaming setup, but at the same time i don't think you will stress it that much. My recommendations is just to try to create positive air pressure, so you get some air exiting on the PSU, helping it cool and at the same time avoiding the hot air to rise to the GPU or the system itself.

If you dont like the idea of fanless PSU on the bottom, there are micro atx cases like Silverstone TJ08-E and PS07 that have the PSU mounted on top and it has its own ventilation hole on top of the case so kinda isolated from gpus and cpus... sort off.

IMO the Antec Solo II could be a better bet, noise-wise.

Noise wise probably, and also the same design into top mounted PSU and open top, but he has already the micro atx mobo, in which the first PCIe slot is the 16x, not sure if the GTX670 will have no trouble clearing toward the hdd cage in that position.

That's correct, but the third PCIe slot is 16x also, AFAIK, so that there should be no problem at all.
