Bitfenix Whisper Series

Post by Smanci » Fri Dec 02, 2016 6:19 am

Interesting review from Tom's HW: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/bit ... 805-5.html
Seems like an all-round decent unit with compelling price (70-80€ for the 450W) and, well, fantastic fan profile. Fully modular, 7yr warranty, 135mm FDB fan, 160mm depth.

Mind you, this is in the hot box (34-46C)

Would be interesting to compare this to my V450S.

Those info apply only to the 450/550W models: the larger ones sport a faster fan, which is noisier (min speed around 7-800rpm).

Said that, the smaller Whisper M are probably the best units in their class, slightly better than the Corsair RM550x and quieter than the EVGA G2 550W (now there's the new G3 lineup, which looks promising).

I'd expect all of them between 450-850W to have similar fan profiles until 70-80%. Reviewers' hot box temperatures vary wildly so while 25C might not be achieved in a hot setup running at full tilt, idle should present no problems.

Usually Robert and Thomas test the PSUs at around 23°C, and the whole fan profile test lasts about 30 minutes.

I just got a BitFenix Whisper M 550W. I have written a blog post in which I compare it with the Corsair RM650x and the Be Quiet! Pure Power 10 600W. Hopefully, it will help someone reach a decision.
