am i asking for trouble
Antec CP-850 850W Cpx Dual Pcb Power Supply Modular ATX12V V2.3 80PLUS Active PFC SLI 120MM Fan
my mobo died and i dont know if the psu is the cause or not.
if i buy new mobo to this uncertain psu, can i break the mobo or what is the worst that can happen?

I've got that PSU. It's very overkill in its design (with components better suited for a 1,500 W PSU) so unless the fan is broken (which you can easily replace) there should be no problems.
I expect to keep my PSU running for another decade...

thats how i feel about cp 850 but people are saying

no psy should be used more than 10 years.
the real question no one answers is the following
lets say the psu has a probleme , can this arm other components or it just simply does not start?
what would you answer to those comments ?

Provided that the PSU puts out "dirty" power or voltages severely out of specs then it can harm the other components.
The probability that the CP-850 will do that is as good as zero!

Because the components are so overkill that you pretty much don't use them.
Like driving an extreme supersports car never exceeding 50 kph or revving above 3,000 rpm.

apart from being larger that regular psu what in it is better?
if buy a new system mobo etc, i might change the psu for a new one since i dont know it this one is faulty.
what is the equivalent of this psu nowadays in term of overkillness and silentness. (i ll keep on using my antec183 case)
or should i aim a finding the same model new somewhere?

IMO you should not buy a new PSU "just because".
The only reason I can think of for you to buy a new PSU is that you also buy a new computer case where a CPX PSU won't fit.
If you buy a new PSU anyway, then don't go for that severely overkill! Just get one rated for 500-600W. That should save you some good money.

You do not need to worry at all. Just keep using what you have until you feel an urge (and can afford) to replace it with something substantially better.

For a quality unit from Antec I'd say no.

Possible? Of course it's possible, but is it probable? Not really, unless you've created a short circuit! Have you?
A destroyed protection should likely end up blocking the power on that line so you get no output in normal use.
It could be that it instead is shorted, and won't cut the power if you overload it, but then there are other protections that should kick in.
Also, realise that the CP-850 has four 12V rails limited to ~30A each whereas a new replacement PSU will only have one 12V rail limited somewhere above whatever that PSU is rated to deliver (so 12V OCP set at ~75A for an 850W PSU).
It's a bit like asking if the airbag in your car will work when needed. The only way to find out is by destructive testing, and then you have to install a replacement that you can't tell for sure if it will work as well as the previous one...
I see little reason why your current PSU should be worse than a new one without proper and thorough testing (of both units, since the new one can be bad as well).

most likely psu is ok. I been working with tech for around 10 years. I had this kinda psu issue once and it was my pc... Experiments
If you are not sure about shorts you can bring psu to someone who will open in and measure everything.

If you for some reason feel a need to get a new PSU. All of us has also recommended that you go with the PSU you already got, since it seems to work just fine.

From a safety and stability point of view...
* YOUR CURRENT PSU IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS.
* A NEW PSU IS NOT BETTER (but possibly a little bit more efficient).
You have a known good PSU and consider replacing it with one that might come with a manufacturing flaw.
The only reason why you should buy a new PSU within the next ten years or so is if the current PSU won't fit your case.
