CF>IDE(female) adaptor?..
what i would ideally like is a CF>IDE adaptor with a female IDE connector; so that i could plug it straight into the motherboard without wasting space having a long cable..
however i dont think any of these exist?.. so, is there such a thing as a female-female ide connector?
Or, how do i go about shortening a normal IDE ribbon cable, and are there any limits to how short i can have it?

I'm pretty sure I've seen something like this on eBay before, I'd recommend checking there if you haven't already.
You might also consider one of these, which you could likely find cheaper on eBay as well.

wim's - how to move the plug on a parallel ata ribbon cable (external link).mb2 wrote:Or, how do i go about shortening a normal IDE ribbon cable, and are there any limits to how short i can have it?
This is a description (by one of SPCR's veterans) how to move one of the plugs on an IDE cable. Use this to remove the secondary connector and move the primary connector close to the motherboard connector. Then just cut the extra length off.
I bought such an adaptor on pcengines.ch.
CFDISK.5G : Cost 10$.
As it's really light, the shipping cost are those of normal letters, and it also have a few resellers in various countries (click on shop)

frosted; those are along the right lines but i really want a separate adaptor and CF card (did u mean u have seen these on ebay?), so i can chose more accurately (speed etc) (and cheaply) what to get.
i have been looking at and intending to buy from ebay (uk) already, as they are farrr cheaper than anywhere else that sells them (who usually play the 'specialist= super expensive' card)
tibors; thanks..is there any minimum? or could i have it literally as short as i want (can) ?
daGO; those appear to all be CF>male IDE, ie they plug into the ribbon cable rather than the motherboard.
is it possible to have one which requires no other power source? (other than laptop connectors).. or am i going to need to use a messy molex or floppy power for sure?

No, no, the one at the bottom of the page is female IDE and plugs directly into the motherboard. I should know, I have one know under my eyesmb2 wrote:dago; those appear to all be CF>male IDE, ie they plug into the ribbon cable rather than the motherboard.
As for power, you need some power connector in any case, the standard (non laptop) IDE one doesn't provide any.
Maybe you can use one of the mainboard fan connector ?
In any case, you can send the maker an email, he's quite responsive.
dago; sorry! i guess i assumed as i couldn't see it clearly and all the rest were male.. upon a closer look i can see it now.. (the bump on it..)
unfortunately the only UK reseller is pretty much a rip-off.. i'll have a look on ebay for this thou..
its only holds a single CF card thou (right?) which is a shame when many can hold two..

hm.. thats interesting still 2x the price for a CF>IDE(m) on ebay, but maybe its worth it..
There wouldn't be any customs issues with this would there? (or any other additional costs?) IIRC they only deal with stuff >£18 or something?
..now i have to decide parallel or perpendicular?
edit: i got it ..went for parallel.. no customs issues and the postage was pretty fast ..the site selling in € (rather than $) worked out a little cheaper, but i think that was what i should have been using anyway.
