How many Samsungs do we have collectivly?
To find out if there are "more than usual" bad Samsung-drives, we need to know how many drives we collectivly have. Please list the number of drives you have:)
I have 2x 1203N and 2x 1614N. Both 1614Ns have failed.

I have had 3x SV0802N running in my server for about 15 months, and 2x SP1614N for about 3 months now, all without any issues. All activly cooled (gently, nothing much, but still active). I have this very morning placed an order for another SP1614N.
I have found the Fujitsu's I have of a specific vintage (3-4 years) are now giving some issues, and so I'm not wanting to keep on using them - drives are not so expensive anymore... My older Fujitsu's are fine however, and I never had ones from the series that had all the negative publicity.
And all my Seagates have been fine.

I recently used 6 SP1614N's from Newegg in a media server, Linux software RAID 5, 24/7 for about 30 days now. All sound alike, very quiet compared to what I am used to. So far so good...

err, I am rather ashamed to need to admit this, but upon closer inspection it seems that my HD-brekdown was selfinflicted... I used cablestraps to suspend the drive and it seems as the vibrations of the HD caused them to snap, both at the same time, so my HD hit the floor and broke instantaneously...
*sigh* Stoopid me...

No, that's obviously a design flaw in the Samsung drive. They should come with a padded, helium-filled bladder on them.Tobias wrote:err, I am rather ashamed to need to admit this, but upon closer inspection it seems that my HD-brekdown was selfinflicted... Could you expound on the nature of the "cable straps" that you were using so that others of us may be careful to avoid using the same type of materials?Tobias wrote:I used cablestraps to suspend the drive and it seems as the vibrations of the HD caused them to snap, both at the same time, so my HD hit the floor and broke instantaneously...
