What is Seagate's current warranty for the Baracuda IV? And for the Baracuda V?

3 year warrenty http://www.seagate.com/cda/products/discsales/personal/family/0,1085,384,00.html and 5 year service life but I think the hard drive manufactuers are thinking of cutting it down to 1 year

confirmed, the Seagate warranty (and many other manufacturers) are cutting down to only 1 year, how sad=(. Seagates start on all drive made on or after Oct 1 (or something like that). That means most of the new Cuda V's will only be warranted for 1 year, sigh.

If I get any new Barricuda now it'd only be safe for one year then... oh well.

According to the recent Tom's Hardware article on this topic, retail packaged drives that indicate a three year warranty will have a three year warranty. It's not clear to me if future Seagate retail drives will have this warranty, or just current/old stock.

Thats interesting, its definately not out of the question that retail drives may come with a longer warranty than the OEM drives. I currently have a OEM cuda IV and it is definately 3 years:)

Any Seagate manufactured after Oct 1 will have a 1 year warranty. It's the manufacture date that's important, not the date you bought it.

So if you're getting a V, you'll most definetely get a 1 year. But some stores probably still have IV's in stock the were made before Oct. If the warranty is important to you call the stores to ask them specifically what the date is on the drive before you buy it.

Hmm, any germans out there?
Would be very interesting to me if MY 'Cuda V only has 1 year warranty, or if it actually has (like I thought it would HAVE to have) 2 years, as it is indicated by german law. At least that is what i thought so far (the law is rather new, one year old or so... before that it was just 6 month warranty)

If you have the serial number from your drive (it's listed on the label) you can go to Seagate's website and check the status of your warranty.
