standby of harddisc

Post by quix » Wed Jan 15, 2003 3:57 pm

Hi everybody!
i'm going to add 3 120gb maxtor hd's to my second pc, and let it work as some kind of file-server/leech-machine. it's running win2000. i won't be using the 3 large hd's that much, so i think it would be very useful (energy saving, less heat) if it would be possible to automaticly send them into standby/turn off after not using them for a certain time. has anyone tried this? or is running something like that? there are options for something like that, in the energy options, but, will that turn off the hd's separately? i'll need one running hd with the system and for leeching.

That's the way I have all of my HDD running. They spin on and off individually as needed. In my server box I can hear it as each of the 8 HDD's comes on and off I pull files off it.
