Should I enable AAM?

Post by ryboto » Thu Oct 05, 2006 3:32 pm

So, is AAM just for seek noise? My WD raptor 150, the latest revision, is kidna loud when idling. It's easily the loudest component in the system. It doesn't have a whine, it's more of a wooshing sound. It sorta sounds like a fan pushing a decent amount of air. So, I'm assuming nothing short of an enclosure will fix this?

AAM, only affects seek noise.

You should hunt the forums for "suspension", there are dozens of reviews, and suggestions on SPCR about suspending drives. You shoul also search the forums for internal enclosures, and specifically ones that can keep ypur raptor quiet.

my drives are suspended, so, vibrational noise is definitely not the source here, it's an operational wooshing sound.

AAM does nothing on Raptors anyway, so you're out of luck. Take the advice that others have offered: Suspension and enclosing the drive are your two options.
