Tom's Hardware did a crappy job with that review. If you want to see what a quality review of the S-ATA Barracuda V looks like, check out the one at lost circuits.
A big problem with the Tom's review is that it doesn't benchmark the S-ATA Barracuda against a P-ATA Barracuda. Without that data, the TH review's claims about the S-ATA interface (summary: better, but not faster) are not justified by their data.
BONUS RANT:
Why do they use 0C as the baseline for their chart of temperature measurements? It makes no sense-- what does the freezing point of water have to do with drive temperatures? It would be much better if they used the ambient room temperature or case temperature as their baseline. The Visual Display of Quantitative Information should be required reading for every computer reviewer out there. Online computer hardware reviews are consistently terrible at visually displaying data.
