I can't take credit for this find, it was on slashdot today. Which means that half of you saw it anyway, but I thought it would be good for the archive.

They seem to come in quite a range, with 2.5 and 3.5 drives.

Access Time - 250 to 39 usec
I/O Rate - 1,500 to 25,000 IOPS
Operating System Independent
Sustained Data Rate - 4.5 to 110 MB/sec
Burst Data Rate - 5 to 133 MB/sec
2.5-inch: 128 MB to 34.8 GB
3.5-inch: 128 MB to 155.6 GB
Solid State/Non-Volatile
1500 Gs Operating Shock
MTBF - 2 Million Hours
Industry Standard IDE Interface*
IDE to UDMA 133 Support
No Device Driver Required
Completely Bootable
Data Security Features

This could be the rocketdrive we have all been waiting for! No hard prices yet, though the high performance version looks to be "1-2 MB per dollar."

Still, that should be enough to install a small server. And with that IO it should be able to serve a hell of a lot of users!

WOW! Now THIS is something worth looking into! It could be the answer to everything I've ever wanted from my harddrive : no noise and fast access times.

I sure hope I won't have to sell an organ to be able to afford one. :P
