p180 & smartdrive -- best configuration?

Post by TheCat » Wed Nov 01, 2006 12:25 pm

I've got an Antec P180 case and a SmartDrive 2002C. To use the smartdrive, I need to put the hard drive in the upper chamber of the case, in the 5.25 bay. This kind of defeats the purpose of putting the hard drive in the lower chamber, to move the heat out of the case. Also, the 5.25 bays are horizontal plastic rail mounted, while the lower chamber bays are vertical silicone grommet mounted.

So, what should I do? Use the smartdrive in the upper chamber, or leave it out and put the hard drive in the lower chamber?

I suggest you remove the HDD cage in the lower chamber, and put the SmartDrive in there instead. Then use foam or the silicone grommets to decouple the SmartDrive. My Scythe Quiet Drive is mounted that way. Tight fit, but works very well.
