Hi,
Recently ordered a 80gb cuda IV and got sent a 80gb cuda 7200.7 instead, spoke with the supplier and they will either let me keep the current drive or replace it for a cuda IV.
The 7200.7 seems pretty good, it quiet, but not as quiet as I was hoping for, plus it's making a ticking noise on idle. Should I return it, will I notice any difference in real world performance, and will the trade off in speed be worth the noise reduction I get?

So far I've come from a Maxtor raid 0 (quick but far too loud), gonna swap all case fans for Panaflows, will also swap out my enermax fans for Panaflows (where can I buy them cheap in the Uk?), and that will just leave a passive Zalman for my 9700 Pro. Hopefully then I'll have a fast and quiet PC, that's the plan at least, although I'm finding out as you reduce the noise in one component it just makes the others sound louder!

G

ive yet to try it but ive got high hopes
if the cuda 4 is quieter i rekon its close, because its got 2 platters vs the 1 of the 7200.7
u could try www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk and www.chillblast.co.uk

Yeah pingu, got ebugger, still trying to decide if I should return it for cuda IV. Spoke with Seagate, they said I could rma for a replacement, so I might do that rather than swap it for a cuda IV, like you say with 1 platter vs. 2, it’s going to be close.
Let me know if your cuda 7200.7 makes an intermittent clicking noise on idle.

the CUDA clicking noise tends to go away after 24-48 hours. hehe. it was driving me nuts on my new IV 80gig (i have 6 of them).. tried to figure out whats wrong.. but it went away after a day or two (its on 24/7).
