Noise for idle/seek:

Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000: 0.6/1.2
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS: 0.6/0.8
Samsung F1 HD103UJ: 0.3/0.5
WD Caviar GP WD10EACS: 0.2/0.5

The quietest ones are the Samsung and the WD (but that one is 5400 rpm all the time and much slower). It is NOT true that it changes 5400-7200 as originally claimed by Western Digital.

Best one overall? Samsung, hands down!

I seem to recall some review stating that the Samsung drive was also "blazingly fast".

The WD drives are very quiet and cool thanks to their 5400 RPM spindle speed. I bought a couple for my Tivos.
