'Cuda V 120GB 8MB Cache PATA (ST3120024A) has AAM?

I'm building a new P4 2.8C system this month, and had planned to purchase the 'Cuda V PATA 120GB w/ 8MB cache (ST3120024A). I've read about the AAM lawsuit and how it's not enabled w/ the new SATA and 7200.7 drives. Even though some posts here indicated that AAM was enabled on the PATA versions (in particular the ST3120024A), I was worried. I wrote Seagate (text below), who replied that the drive does not support AAM. Can anyone who's purchased a ST3120024A _recently_ refute this? Thanks!

Hoping for a quiet HD,

Hello,

This drive does not support acoustic management. There are also no
utilities available from Seagate to manage the acoustics on this drive
family.

ST3120024A has AAM enabled?

Dear Seagate,

I've read a great deal lately about how the new 7200.7 and Barracuda V
SATA's
are shipping with AAM disabled. Can the 120GB 8MB cache PATA Barracuda V
(ST3120024A) do AAM?

thanks for the quick response! Two more questions--did enabling AAM do much, and where can I find the Hitachi tool?

I just got a ST3120024a and despite a weird issue in XP I was able to run seeam.exe no problem and it's now set to quiet. My current system is far too loud for it to really make a difference, I just splurged as I needed more storage before I build a silent system.

Does anyone have any links to info on this lawsuit? I wasn't able to find anything on it.

the ibm/hitachi drives do have this contested technology and continue to use it? if compaq and seagate were told to stop, who's still using it?

Cheers!
