Seagate SATA V to be discontinued?

Post by ian1234 » Sun May 11, 2003 10:22 pm

Hi,

A bit of background...

I ordered 2 SATA V 120GB drives and, due to the general shortage, received 1 immediately with the other on backorder. Yesterday the other drive arrived except it was a SATA 7200.7 (which I didn't realise until I turned the computer on and heard the noise).

I phoned the shop and was told they couldn't supply a SATA V as they were in the process of being discontinued. As the model had only been released a few months ago, I was somewhat suspicious of this excuse.

Anyway, I phoned the Seagate helpline and was told, yes, the SATA V is going to be discontinued due to the lawsuit regarding AAM. From now on there will only be the SATA 7200.7 model which the Seagate representative agreed meant that future hard drives will inevitably be noiser.

I'm not a happy bunny.

Ian
