Samsung HD250HJ: 1 platter

Post by djkest » Thu Feb 14, 2008 6:42 am

I thought this drive needed it's own thread. It's new, hasn't been reviewed to my knowledge yet.

Basically the HD250HJ is a single-platter 5400 rpm drive. It costs less than the WD 250GB equivalent. Also, after formatting it has a full 250GB available. (unlike my 500GB drive that is 450). Supposed to be low power, although I cannot confirm/deny the power useage of just the drive. Supposed to be very quiet, although due to some louder fans I cannot for sure tell you how quiet it is. I wish I had some scientific measurements for it. Nice product though, and I expect it to be kind of a gold standard for low-cost hard drives.

There's a fairly well-established thread about this drive here.
