Single-platter 250GB Scorpio Blue

Post by line » Mon Aug 24, 2009 11:58 am

Here's an update for those looking to buy a cheap, low capacity notebook drive. It appears a single-platter version of the WD2500BEVT is out, under the following submodels:

WD2500BEVT-00ZAT0
WD2500BEVT-22ZAT0

I don't know where this info comes from because I was unable to find a benchmark for this submodel, but assuming it uses a single platter, we can expect good noise and thermals, and performance level which is:

- better than previous submodels, which are either 2 x 125 or 2 x 166.
- better than the 320GB Scorpio Blue, which is currently 2 x 166, until it transitions to 1 x 320.
- comparable to the 400 and 500GB Scorpio Blue; check here for a reference.
- inferior to the 320GB Scorpio Black.

As always, YMMV.

thats great news! i bought the 500 gb model, but its idle whine noise is too loud for my tastes. i had upgraded from a 160gb (probably single platter) fujitsu on my macbook. i guess ill give these single platter ones a try. any idea when a single platter 320 gb will be out?
