Cuda V 120 8mb cache -- versus -- Cuda V 80 GB -- VS. SATA?
I'm considering returning my cuda V sata drives. Each drive idles above 50 degrees. Does anybody know if the PATA V's run cooler?
Also,-- Would the cuda 120GB 8mb cache be noisier than the smaller 80GB 2MB chace cuda V?? I'm really confused on that issue..
thanks
alan

I had a 120mm SATA and a 120mm PATA Barracuda V. The SATA drive ran at 43°C in the same enviornment (mounted in the HDD rack of my SLK3700 with a 5V 92mm L1A blowing on it) that my 80GB Barracuda IV ran at 36°C. I traded it for the PATA version and it ran at 40-41°C.
So in my case the PATA drive did run cooler than the SATA version but only by 2-3°C, and both ran noticeably hotter than the good 'ol cuda IV.
For now I've gone back to the Barracuda IV and will try and wait patiently for the Samsung 8MB drives to start showing up.

You could mount it in a novibes but I'd sure run a fan over it for cooling.adoyle wrote:ralph, would it be possible toount the pata version using novibes without overheating?

I wish I could answer these questions but there are still no 8MB Samsung drives available to us USA residents. The 2MB Samsungs run very cool though, so I'm hoping the 8MB versions follow suit.adoyle wrote:How much cooler does the samsung run? Do u think the 8 mmb cache samsung would run hotter?
