Read the review a view hours ago.
I was kind of curious how it performed. Not too much surface to get rid of the heat.
Was kind of suprised to read that the reviewers found that it got rid of the whining noise.
I doubt that it would block any noise. It only decouples the hdd.
Not something i would buy.

Argh, scooped by pingu!
Well here's another review.
Some comments:
1. Includes isolators in addition to heat pipes for cooling.
2. Performance may be improved if some thermal compound added?
3. Takes up 5 1/4" bay. Alternatively, drilling templates for top or bottom of case mounting provided for those who have power tools and are not afraid to use them.
4. Wondering if sticking a giant heat sink on top of the heat pipes, after mounting this at the bottom of the case, would bring drastic improvements.

I was a bit surprised at the comment that it reduced the drives idle 'whine' at first. But it's quite possible a significant portion of the noise from the whine escapes through the sides of the disk which are getting covered by a chunk of aluminum. Be interesting to see how much whine reduction SPCR members report.
I guess so, otherwise that statement doesn't make much sense.aphonos wrote:Do you mean actively cooling, since you are using a fan?POLIST8 wrote:I still am a fan of decoupling and passively cooling the Hard Drives...
Besides, passively cooling does a better job anyway.
But of course, there is no fan in this setup, which is the selling point.
By the way, I know fan = active and heat sink only = passive. But what's the actual definition of passive cooling? Is it no moving parts, or no extra power requirement? For example, if I cool something with a Peltier and a huge heat sink (assuming it works) is it active or passive?
