Whether you need a power convertor depends on what PSU you have. The vast majority of current PSUs do not have the SATA power plug on them. I have seen one or two new ones (TT, I think. Yeecch) with the SATA plugs on them.

It's really no big deal to use a convertor (it's more like an adapter anyway. It's just a few inches of wires with a female 4-pin Molex on one end and the L-shaped SATA male connector on the other). You just plug it on to any Molex connector on your PSU wiring loom. They come in retail HDD boxes or you can buy them (from places like Fry's and I'm sure they'll start showing up at CUSA and BB soon) for about $3 if you're using an OEM drive.

The diamondmax SATA includes both a standard molex and a SATA power connector, so no need for an adapter. 8)

Yea thats why Im asking, I could swear that I saw a review that said that the sata maxtor didnt require an adapter, but I want to know for sure because I plan on buying one VERY soon, one dont want to wait for an adapter to arrive to know if everything is working right.

When you get one, let us know how the sound is. I'm thinking of getting one soon too.

So the answer is I dont need an adapter? Does anyone actually have one and knows this for certain?
