Which one would you rate as the best when it comes to noice? These are the ones which are available to me so I've to do the best I can from these.
- IBM/Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP
- Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.7
- Western Digital Caviar WDXXXXXX / Western Digital Caviar XL WDXXXXXX
P.S. Assuming equal number of platters. All are 7200rpm.
Best Regards,
Johan Tibell

Every now and then. Just browsed trough 2,5 pages of search results and it's very hard to come up with a conclussion. Since most opinions are based on subjective hearing and doesn't concern 7200.7 vs. 180GXP (rather 180GXP vs. others and 7200.7 vs others). Many opinions are also in direct contradiction to each other. I thought by focusing this posts on those drives I could get a reasonable relative order.

johtib - the recommended pages are clear about the 'cuda being quieter than the 180GXP. The reviews are also clear: the 180GXP has a whine that the 'cuda doesn't. AAM affects only seek/write noise BTW.

Thank you making it clear. I'll go for the 'cudas then since noice is more important in my miniITX project.
