This is a popular drive among silent PCers. I have posted once before but haven't gotten to the root of the issue. I have XP sp2. I upgraded from an IDE drive to a faster and quieter SATA type. The problem is that it is running in IDE mode or ATA mode. My burst rate is only 84mb/s and max data transfer about 100mb/s. Others with similar systems are getting double my benchmarks. My BIOS options are pretty limited. Under SATA PCI I am offered IDE mode, RAID, or Other Mass Storage which will not boot. Raid gives me no performance gain. There are some IDE controller settings which only affect what is plugged into the IDE ports. My integrated chipset supposedly has SATA support and all software and drivers are installed, but perhaps that is only IDE compatible mode and not true SATA. If I look in control panel there is no SATA controler listed, only an IDE/ATA controler and I'm not sure if there is supposed to be. Anyone else with XP and this drive or a similar SATA drive please tell me how you have yours configured and how it is functining. I have tried installing and booting with this drive and booting with the original drive and the performance is virtually the same. Thanks a million, really!

XP won't boot if you change the storage tyape after installation without going through the proper procedure. It doesn't necessarily mean it couldn't boot.
