eSata?

Post by silentbobbo » Sat Jul 23, 2011 4:52 am

guys

Please forgive me if this is not meant to be posted here

I'm wondering how do I use the eSata on the back of my new asus z68 board. Can I directly connect my sata HDD to it? How does it power up?

Thanks

There are some powered eSata ports, but to what i have read, this is not enough to move a 3.5 hdd, its more for certain 2.5 drives. More commonly the esata ports are just a sata port but external, so you will need an external power to supply the hdd, enclousure or dock.

Or, some boards (like my P45) come with an eSATA bracket for the back of the PC. You hook up the SATA cables and a molex to the inside, and use SATA cables and a SATA power cable for the outside. If your board didn't come with one, you could buy one.

Get an esata Dock such as this:

In the alternative you need to get a cable that will supply power to the hard drive. Such as this:

coupled with this:
