Samsung Spinpoint F1 Errors ?

Post by k1250 » Thu Dec 01, 2011 8:29 am

HD Tune is showing a health warning on one of my drives a Samsung F1 320GB SATA II HD. The warning says there are 159 communication errors on the drive which may be caused by a faulty cable. I replaced the SATA data cable but still get the same warning. The drive is still under warranty with Samsung, their web site advise running their diagnostic utility "ESTOOL" before requesting an RMA. But their diagnostic tool shows no errors found, and Windows 7 also shows the drive as healthy. The drive seems to be working normally, I haven't noticed any problems reading from and writing to it, but I've backed up the data on it just in case. I'm pretty sure if I RMA this drive to Samsung it will come back as no fault found. I made a screen shot of the warning on HD Tune, Any advice appreciated, ... http://tinyurl.com/cbgq2uf

If this attribute raw value 159 doesn't increase anymore, then cable replacing did help and you have nothing to worry about. Other attributes look normal.
