Hi,

I currently have 4 x 2TB WD green drives in my fileserver, and I'm thinking about adding more. The problem is that I have exhausted the onboard sata ports, and need to add a very low power pci-e hba (the FUSION350-A-E has an open ended x4 pci-e).

You can see system specs in my signature (BOFH).

So specifically I'm looking to get the lowest consuming 4+ port HBA possible. Wondering if anyone have some power consumption figures regarding different sata HBA's?

Possible HBA's:
    - Adaptec 1405, 4 port (official specs 4.62W typical; 1.4A @ 3.3V)
    - Intel SASUC8I, 8 port (no specs I could find)
    - IBM M1015, 8 port (no specs I could find)
    - LSI SAS 9211-8i, 8 port (7W according to website)

I already have a 2-port Adaptec 1220SA. This one is just under 2W (tested in my server, official specs 0.9 amps@ 3.3V).

I hope someone can help, I'm trying very much to keep the power consumption low. Any power hungry controller will easily add 50% to the idle power consumption of my machine :( :(

Hi alewinsky, I had a quick look and found this card: Highpoint RR 2640x4.
I think the specs relaing to it are in this PDF.
It states
Quote:
Power: 5W

I suppose this means 5w maximum but as is a small card with a small chip and no heatsinks or anything the power has to be very low or it would overheat itself pretty fast!
