Seagates 2nd generation Hybrid drive was fairly good.

Looks like they are planning a real Velociraptor killer version for their third generation.

It is a 10,000 rpm, 7mm thick, model that incorporates SLM SSD memory.

"In the fall, we will be introducing our third-generation client hybrid drives, which will be in the 7mm form-factor."

Better to just buy SSD and a 5400rpm drive. SSD handles OS, apps and games. HDD takes care of the storage.

Seagate should focus on catching up to Western Digital on HDD noise levels or get into the SSD market.

+1 for OS SSD and storage 5400er. Why use half speed, when full speed is available?

If you happen to own more than one PC/TV/PS3 etc, then a low power NAS instead of the 5400er HDD gets more attractive, given a suitable network. Mine has his place beside my router, where the little noise it sometimes creates doesn't bother.
