Anyone want to comment on or suggest better alternatives to these 3 drive choices for a new system?
SSD: SAMSUNG 840 Series 120 GB (see URLs below)
HDD: Western Digital WD Green WD20EARX 2TB
LG Black Blu-ray Burner, Bare Drive (WH14NS40) - OEM

I'm also interested in suggestions for mounting supplies for the 840 SSD and LG burner given customer coments at Newegg.

The new system will be a moderate performing AMD A10-5800 with ASUS MB in Silverstone case and Seasonic G360 PSU.

The 840 is a budget model with lower performance, shorter lifespan, and with more negative feedback on newegg than the old 830.

Pick an Intel 330 instead.

Asus is known for making quiet optical drives, that's all I know tho.

Any comments on getting the slower (3Gb/s instead of 6Gb/s), smaller cache (32 MB instead of 64 MB) model of the 2 TB WD Green drive?

When I went to Fry's the clerk gave me the slower, 32 MB cache model at $10 less than Newegg price (for the speedier, larger cache model I wanted them to price match).
He said the different model number was an update. I now think he mislead me. The packaging does not show the speed differnce or cache size, so it is possible he did not know. It was not until I checked at home that I see the WDBAAY0020HNC-NRSN has been shipping a good while so is not an update.

But is 3Gb/s, etc., a real loss?
I don't plan disk intensive uses, but will it annoy me over time?

You really don't need hardware to mount your SSD. I bought a Samsung 830 which lacked optional hardware and simply used a couple of very small pieces of Scotch double-sided tape. Double-sided tape is better because it gives you more options about installation location.

A Crucial m4 is also a reliable and cheap SSD. You should consider that one too.

I did some googling and see that SSDs need no shock and vibration mounting in desktops so just about anything works.

The Crucial m4 looks like a very good choice. I could also get it for less.
I had decided to get the Intel 330 because of a little higher buyer satisfaction levels and my hope for longer life though both come with 3 year warranties.
SSDs are new for me so I both appreciate the advice and am a little risk adverse.
