Heatsinks for cooling a Intel Quad core ?

Post by NyteOwl » Fri Mar 14, 2008 9:41 pm

Has anyone used a Mini-Ninja on any of Intel's quad core processors (either standard or overclocked?

If so what was performance like?

Also anyone try the Thermalright SI-128 passively?

Depends what Quad you're talking about. Q6000? or Q9000? Personally I wouldn't do either Passive, have at least a fan at 500RPM or something will help a whole lot. But that's up to you.

Sorry I should have said - the Q6600/6700. Probably looking at either a Solo/Corsair or Atlas 550 for case/psu and some quiet fans.

I've used the mini ninja on a gigabyte DS3L with a Q6600, then switched it out with a full ninja. temps were initially about 7 degrees better for the higher fan voltages on the big ninja (7-12 volts for each fan, for instance, although I know the 120 was moving more air than the 80 mm on the mini ninja). Over time, however, the temps have crept up to only about 5 degrees difference. I used the included push-pins, not a bolt-through kit. That'll be my next stop.

KansaKilla, would you have the actual numbers handy? I'm interested in specifics, as I'm upgrading to an E8400/Ninja Mini combo.

I'm sure the OP would appreciate them too.
