I haven't seen much discussed extensively on systems that use case fans coupled with a duct or shroud over the CPU. Lots of OEM systems have these because they often provide more reliable cooling over an extended period of time, and they're also significantly less labor intensive to install.
The other advantage is that they can use 80 or 92mm fans trivially, and they get hot air out of the case immediately instead of just churning it around internally.
The big problem with them is that they require a special duct/shroud for each case/mobo combination, since the geometry changes. A flexible shroud might be a good solution -- flexible tubing coupled with some type of mounting mechanism might be a good solution.
Thoughts?

P.S. GREAT site
Case fans + ducts/shrouds instead of HSF
