Hi,
First of all the SLK-800 is a high performance heatsink that requires a high performance fan to cool it properly.
Second, the AthlonXP 2100+ is the hottest running AMD CPU available today.
Third, Asus motherboards are known to report Temps as much as 10C above actual temps.
Fourth, by running your case open you destroy the normal airflow pattern within your case.
It seems obvious that you are seeking quiet running, but yet you've put together a system that requires more aggressive cooling, which should include case fans in front and back and clearing any wiring that may hamper airflow.
I reviewed this heatsink as well and achieved remarkable results, but I used it as the manufacturer intended as a high-performance unit with a loud 68 CFM fan!!
