I'm having a very hard time finding an AX7 (although I'm leaning towards an SLK-800 anyways). One site said the AX7 has been discontinued in favor of the SK-7, and it really does seem to be rare. NewEgg, etc. dont' have it, and maybe 20% of the sites listed by Thermalright carry it, but few of them even tell you if they have it in stock.

My biggest concern is that this has to go on an Intel i815 mobo, where the CPU socket is at the edge of the mobo right next to the PSU, worried about a tight fit there.

Yes, the AX7 is history, unfortunately. Whether the SLK700 or SK7 has taken its place, it's hard to say. Both of these appear to be closer to the SLK800 design, being thin-finned and all copper.

All the tests say to go with the SK-7. I am using one on my OC system and it is giving me better performance than the AX-7. Take a look at the complete reviews that have been done by Robotech at http://w3.one.net/~robotech/computers.htm

Well, I've ordered an SK-7, hope it works okay on my P3/1000.

I'm really quite surprised that there isn't some place that has great prices AND great inventory. *sigh*

You should be fine. I'm running a PIII-S 1.4 and using an SLK-800 with a 7-volted Panaflo M1A on it. Prime95 load temps are only 44C.

If you have trouble fitting that SK-7, don't forget that the footprint of the SLK-800 is smaller. I've had mine on three different 815 boards and have never been close to hitting anything on the board.
