Alphatech PAL8942, your personal experience with it...

Post by TheEagleCD » Wed Jan 08, 2003 1:56 pm

Hey people,
this is my first post in here :D
I'm wondering that there's so little info about the Alphatech PAL8942 to be found on this site! Even though I really liked the Heavyweight P4 Heatsinks Roundup, I think that they ought to have also tested this heatsink. Whatever, they'll probably (and hopefully) do that in the near future.
I've read quite some reviews from "standard" sites about this heatsink but I want to know about its qualities as a low noise solution. Please add what system you're running it on (see my signature for my specs) and what temperatures you're seeing (if possible)...
Thanx in advance...
Regards,
TheEagleCD

It is an excellent heatsink.

I have run it will a Vantec Stealth, and currently use a Globe fan Clearfan controlled with a Vantec Nexus NXP.101.

Cooling is a few degrees below the stock Intel and Thermaltake Volcano 478 that I used before.

Im using a 8942T on my 1.8A which is OCed to 2.4. with VCore at 1.575V. With a papst NGML (19dB, 26CFM) running at around 9V, it keeps it below 55*C with CPU at 100%, thats with a case temp at about 30*C. Idle is about 40*C.

Works bitichin for me. I have it mounted on my P4 2.66, OCed to 3.0Ghz with a Panaflo L1A as the fan. Max Prime95 load temps are in high 40C to low 50C range, depending on ambient temps. Daytime temps here in Sunny SoCal have ranged from high 50F to high 80F during the last two weeks so my ambient room temps have been bouncing around a lot as well.
