:?: Hi,

(edited - corrected part number of heatsink)

I just got a Thermalright AX-478. It comes with thermal grease and a pad of some sort. There are no instructions with the heat sink, nor are there any on their web site. Does anyone know whether you use both, or just one or the other? If only one, which is preferable?

TIA!

-TF

I believe thet pad you are referring to is a thermal pad, though I don't recall getting one with my AX-478. You can use either, but I'd reccommend using the thermal grease (or better yet some Arctic silver) instead of the thermal pad, since it is much easier to remove if decide to switch cpu's in the future.

The thermal grease will also transfer heat to the CPU more efficiently giving you better temps. And yes arctic silver would be better than both (its a silver based thermal 'grease')

Hi,

Thanks for the additional info. I intend to use "GC Electronics Type 44 compound" based on a review I saw at the link below.

Once again, I appreciate the feedback!
