Heatsink for RAM

Post by JEN » Tue May 06, 2003 12:49 pm

Does anyone have any experience with heatsinks for RAM. Check out this link to see what I mean.

Do these things help with cooling at all?

Different people will tell you that heatsinks for RAM are

a) Not Need and are stupid
or
b) Not needed but look really cool
or
c) You should use it if your system is highspeed and kicka$$

I personally fall into d) catagory. Maybe it will help, but it can't hurt.

It aids in cooling primarily when overclocking only. Otherwise, there's really no use for them as your RAM rarely gets hot to touch while operating (don't actually do it though, you could ruin the RAM from static electricity). For those seeking that extra megahertz in overclocking, it is something to look into.

Most rambus modules do come with it preinstalled because they do tend to generate slightly more heat operating at a much higher frequency.
