How hot is HOT?

Post by axsnetworks » Thu Jul 03, 2008 12:53 am

hello guys....
This is my first topic in spcr, put don't think I'm new here
I been reading you guys for a long while and have listen carefully to all the advices you guys say....for that I would like to start by thanking all of you...
now to the matter at hands....
I have a system that I've build up myself....
the thing is that although the temperature are ok, the ram sticks are always hot, not hot to the point that if I touch them I get burned, but to the point that they are HOT.....
the spec of the pc are:
phenom 9850 with a ninja rev b
4gb ram corsair
asus m3n ht (changed northbridge and nf200 heatsinks for a HR-05 - SLi - IFX)
leadtek 8800gts
all in a coolermaster praetorian 730...
Ill try to load up some pictures.....
thanks in advance

If the ram is not getting any airflow over it , it will get very hot . Without seeing your layout it is hard to say , but it can be an issue .

The fan on your ninja should be pulling enough air over the ram to cool it - so I do not think that is the issue - it may just be that your particular ram runs a bit warm ! You have more airflow in your case than I have in any of mine - and you 8800gts would be putting little extra heat into the case as it is designed to blow the heat out .

thanks a lot pony-tail......
I think I was just freaking out.....
just in case I have just moved the ram to the second slot so there was more space and I think I will take inteo consideration buyin a kamabay so it will push some air thru there......
Maybe I am looking for the holy grail... silent and cool :)
thanks

For future reference, you should be more specific when posting specs, in particular for the component you are asking about. Your RAM is DDR2, I assume? What is its frequency and CL? What voltage does it run on? Have you done any overclocking?

If it's comfortably warm there's nothing to worry about, but if it's so hot you can't touch it for more than a few seconds I think there is. You should consider undervolting it a little.

to be honest holy-fire you are right...
I think I got carried away and thought that anyone would know my specs...
so here it goes...
the proc is a AMD phenom 9850 2.5ghz
memory is corsair XMS2 ddr2 800 cl5 1.8v
the motherboard is a m3n-ht deluxe with the north and the nf200 chipsets heat sink swapped out and replaced for HR-05-SLi-IFX
graphics card is a Leadtek 8800gts 512mb (g92)
there is a coolemaster 120mm fan at 5v as intake (bottom right in the picture)
and there is two coolermaster 80mm fans at 5v as exhaust....
there is no overclocking going on in the pc, all voltage are standard....
the issue is that I can keep my fingers on the memory for as long as I want as its not that hot, but its uncomfortably hot.....
thanks in advance for all the help
