Just found out that the Thermalright SLK900U hsink may be too large for some mobos.
I personally almost bought the SLK900U for my EPox 8K7A+ mobo (running XP1800+) - does anyone know if the SLK900U will fit?
I am not sure whether they do refunds on hsinks at this mail order place. And to take my PC to them is a 1hr drive which is quite a big hassle for just a heatsink
Comments? Suggestions?

The 800 and the 800U/900U mount at 90º angles from each other. The 800A will not run into anything on that board, but the U models (oriented 90º the other way) may have some clearance issues with the capacitors--which don't have a lot of room to bend with the MOSFETS and their heatsinks in the way. Thermalright's site does not list this as a compatible board, but an email to them might be the best way to figure it out.Radeonman wrote:While I don't have my 8k7a+ out right now, I do remember it being free enough for an 800A to be used on the board.
I was able to install an 900U on an Epox 8K3A+ but it took quite a bit of bending of the capacitors to do it. The board is working fine now however.gonsped wrote:Yea, I got a reply back from Thermalright - boy they are very quick in their replies!
They said its best to use the 800U instead. Ah well - we'll see how that goes then
The 800U from NewEgg was about $3 cheaper than the 900U, and I bought the board as a refurb so didn't have alot in it.dr150 wrote:Save your money and possible board damage and get the 800.
I wanted the best possible cooling and was willing to take my chances on bending the caps.
I'm also planning a future upgrade to an Intel 865PE based board and none of the Intels have a problem with the 900U.
If I trashed the board, I'd have been upgrading a bit sooner than planned and my daughters machine would not have benefited from my old board.
Worked fine for me, but no guarantee's for anyone else.
