newbie fan question.

Post by adoyle » Thu Jun 26, 2003 5:33 pm

hi..i'm building a p4 2.8 ghz system. i'll be using a zalman cpu solution. how few case fans can i get away with. i was hoping for one of those 12dba papst fans? Is that too little air flow?
do i really need 120mm fans..they all seem more noisy than their 80mm cousins?

thx

I'm not an Intel person anymore...so I'm not sure about HSF combos for them.

As for the case fans...you can undervolt a 120mm fan that will push alot more air at the same noise level as an 80mm. The amount of airflow will be based strongly on your case and its internal layout. If it runs stable with the setup you decide upon, then yes it is fine. If it runs too hot...then you will need additional cooling. Its easy to mod a case to accept an additional fan if required...however, its very difficult to "unmod" a case if decide you don't need the extra fans. I love my one Enermax 120 Adjustable exhaust fan. Attach a fan mate to it and it gets even quieter and still pushes out quite a bit of air.
