Hopefully Thermalright will sell an optional duct. I know they had one available for the HR-01 that allowed the heatsink to be ducted to a rear 120mm fan.

Saw this on Termalright's website this morning. (yes I load it up every morning to look at the HR-02...)

Uhm, trying to run passive on non-passive heatsinks, what a surprise they fail (NH-U12P and Venomous X).

Ninja 2 ? HR-01 Plus ? It's like one "review" i saw on someones blog where they compared a 7200.10 320GB drive with WD10FAEX and the difference between them was credited to difference between SATA2 and SATA3.

There are passive heatsinks, so test against them, not against coolers which weren't even designed or promoted as a passive.

Well, you're attitude is pretty demanding. I guess it's not unlikely that the reviewer didn't have those sinks available for testing.

What the chart showed was that the temperature of the other heatsinks was as high as you would expect them to be when running passive, which shows that the tests probably weren't ran in some ice-cold environment, and that the hr-02 sink seems to deliver what's being promised. Still look forward to read more tests of this sink though of course.

Here's a very basic review at Overclockers Club with nice numbers on an overclocked i7, but the reviewer clearly runs his gear too much on open-air testbeds and totally missed the point on one clear feature of the HR-02... :roll:
A unique thing about the HR-02 is that the base is not centered underneath the rest of the heatsink. I am not sure why Thermalright chose to do this to the HR-02, but I'm sure that there is a reason behind this.

I agree, a good test would at least do it inside a case. But i'm sure SPCR would do a complete review.

a properly built computer won't raise the temp of the cpu.

those 75 degree passive numbers for the i7 are interesting, but i'm assuming that the cpu is at it's stock clock? can't decipher the language that the review was written in :-/

Fit perfectly in my NSK3480.

Would HR-02 work ok with LianLi PC-A05N since it has reversed airflow? I read from some review the heatsink must be as close as possible to the back panel so it doesn't block the memory slots and offers the best cooling. Does it even fit in?
Just curious and not thinking about new system :wink: :D

Sorry to bump a really old thread but does anyone know if the original HR-02 needs an adapter for 1155 boards?

confirmed by Thermalright:

All our models that support the LGA 1156 are naturally compatible with the Sandy Bridge, the LGA 1155. As the LGA 1155 shares the same screw hole design, you can just purchase the LGA 1156 BTK if you wish to upgrade your old Thermalright tower coolers to Sandy Bridge platform.
