LGA 2011 heatsink compatibility?

Post by Tzupy » Mon Oct 17, 2011 9:13 am

There's less than a month until the launch of the Sandy Bridge E CPUs, with their new LGA 2011 socket.
I couldn't find any reliable information about the HSF comptibility with the new socket, anyone knows something?
The only piece of information I found is that the TR Archon Rev. A has an 'optional' LGA 2011 support.

I havent seen any fully X79/LGA2011 heatsink, i think first we might just see brackets as the Thermalright is doing with the Archon, Noctua was the first that i saw back when i order my X58/LGA1366, so i would check on them, but my guess is as times get closer to release we will see most manufacturers do brackets releases.

As a side not reading on the Archon.....
Large heatsink fin array provides dissipating area of up to 150*125mm, making complete use of the airflow, with 150mm 140mm or 120mm fan.

Includes one Thermalright TY-150 PWM fan

Fan-clips are compatible with TY-150 /TY-140 140mm and 120mm fan.[/color], Ultra low noise at 21 dBA at max rpm (50cm testing distance)
Interesting, i only knew about the TY-140, which i like a lot, so looking forward to this new 150mm fan.

From what I've read a lot of heatsinks will require new retention-clips. Iirc Noctua have stated they will offer free mouning-kits to those who own one of their recent coolers.

Thermalright already has two items displayed in its site.

2011 Retention Kit
for:
- HR-02 Macho
- True Spirit 120
- True Spirit 140

2011 Adapter kit
for:
- Archon
- Silver Arrow
- HR-02
- Venomous X

There already are motherboards compatibility lists in PDF for most models of cooler with listed LGA2011 motherboards. See tab support and link MCL on the cooler's page.

Noctua displays in its site the NH-D14 SE2011 too. Prolimatech does still not display on its but already mentions this.
